[ FEBRUARY IS BLACK HISTORY MONTH ]
Dr Justus Ford was Colorado's first black doctor. During her practice in Denver, she delivered approximately 7,000 babies between 1892 and 1952, and became known as the "baby doctor" around Denver.
During the "Gold Rush" days of the mid-1800s, miners considered it good luck to have a black miner alongside them.
In the late 1800s, approximately 3 out of every 10 cowboys in the West were black.
